Essien hopes his experience will inspire readers to
maintain focus and perseverance in chasing their dreams. He encourages others
to keep their “faith and the craving to be adventurous in anything they want to
achieve out of life”.
An excerpt from “What a life”:
Tell me, did you ever rise in the morning and take
a good look at your unaccomplished life? And felt the heat? You know the
feeling? Right. You may be in New York City working as an engineer for a multinational,
but you are a born singer, right? You’re a doctor on call in downtown LA, but
you were born to be a lawyer, right? Or you’re a reporter for a big newspaper
company in London but you are a natural race driver – a business consultant for
an oil firm in Dubai, nut what you really are is a motivational speaker – a
diplomat in China but a natural actor or maybe in the Syrian military, when you
really are a pastor. You just might be the saddest teacher somewhere in Kenya
but you know that you do what you do because you have to, not because you want
to. There’s a big difference.
