    TOXIC FANS IN NIGERIA

Toxicity is a very damaging substance/ behavior that can destroy humans and  a foundation well built. From my own definition, it's one of the highest degree of damage to organisms too, for humans  this can be attributed to overzealous fans of movers and shakers of a society.

Admirers of popular culture who act in ways that are inappropriate and unpleasant.

Coming to my fatherland, I remember like 15 to 10 years back, majority of the Nigerian masses only see celebrities on their television sets, except for the journalists who interviewed them or those rich kids who had the chance to attend their concerts and they still don't have a direct access to them. But now due to the development in technology and the internet, it has become a dream come true.

Now there is no gap, and people have the opportunity to connect with their mentors through Dms,  direct messages or comments via private/public social media platforms which is good, if it's for work and helping in promoting people's growing career.

The internet has given every human being in the human race the opportunity to express themselves through images, writing, music and this is one of the greatest advantage of the internet.

This has given we Africans the platform to showcase our talents all over the world, all you need to do is Google search and get all the information you need.

In Nigeria, coming to the internet platforms: Twitter, Facebook, snap chat, Tiktok, Instagram, tumbir, Telegram, etc., they are the most popular platform where you can network, means almost everyone is on one of this platforms and you can have access to any celebrity, or business philanthropist you like, you just follow.

But I had to put a question mark to this, what's going on with all the toxicdity? That comes with Fame we have some set of fans who go online and go directly to the comment section of a celebrity and insult them, even to their unborn generation and families, this is so heartbreaking.

This is very unacceptable! Example is the BB platform. I was always in shock when I saw how fan base drag themselves and trolls each other, this keyboard warriors whom we know nothing about, go berserk on each other like they knew each other from somewhere, and the shocking thing is they have never meet this celeb and just based on what happened on the show they watched which is a game.

I used Gotv and stumbled on BBtitans, I wasn't really interested, but this South African house mate caught my attention, Motatsi Wendy Madiba and I followed her and Kanagar Jr. who was a great contender and a very talented Nigerian, so it was a south African and Nigerian relationship which was even good for the show.

The narrative on the nomination which was a group one by the Royals, which Ebubu picked, fan base and persons with personal vendetta placed attacks on her even before she came out of the house.

She decided to visit Nigeria, she was welcomed well by Sunrisers. We have the kanastii shippers too, it was a great one...but this keypad warriors started trying to deframe her character, but because of the love that surpassed the hate, she gradually own her power and is doing great in Nigeria.

Another housemate kanagar Jr., they try to ship him with any girl he greets and have pleasantries with, rolling my eyes, making all sorts of comments unbelievable even insulting his family...this guy is just a decent guy who is just trying to make an impact.

We have the BBNaija reunion, Phyna, Groovy saga, Bella and Shegzz, who fought for this love and put all their  critics to shame. Khozi Twala the BBtitans winner, her fan base war Yemi, Thabang and many more, fans keep assuming and making wrong accusations of this amazing  personalites without proof.

This can mess up one's mental health, forget it's on the internet, we are all flesh and blood, we have the Twitter space and lives, where fans directly insult these people.

See the case of Super star Davido, a fan made a very insensitive statement on the loss of his son, that was very disrespectful and if David Sues him now, they will say he is going too far.

It's another thing to be a celebrity, but even a celebrity have a right to live and have his or her privacy, but this fans would not let them be. Is it that their own life is a mess and they are frustrated and trying to feel good by insulting these celebrities? Because mentally, it's scary.

I feel there should be a penalty placed on people who commit this crimes. It's a crime attacking celeb who you don't know, they didn't hurt you and you keep throwing horrible insults at them, for no good reasons that you heard a rumour or they played a game that didn't favor your fave. I feel those trolls' private lives should be investigated, brought to public and be published, so they know how it feels like to be bullied for no concrete reasons.

I pray this is addressed, it's not funny anymore.
