Emphasis on celebrity stylist, fashion celebrities, major events and being in the mist of the who is who in the society. Ibidun represents the modern day cosmopolitan Lagos chick; the playwright is trying to make us visualize the hustling spirit of a typical Lagos girl.

When you think you are in paradise and trouble looms. The playwright went down to the basics-cyber bullying, in fact a lot of celebrities have had to face this once in a life time in their career. This chapters talks about how conquering the faceless demons is the solution to cyber bullying.
CHAPTER 4:
The emphasis on INTERNET dating, popularity, and the reality of it; that it has come to stay. The playwright uses Ibidun and her boyfriend Uche as a case study to describe the whole drama that comes with Online Dating
CHAPTER 5:
“POVERTY” the word people tries to look for another syllable to describe. A passage from this chapter, “MOTHER NEVER HAD ANY MONEY TO SEND US TO SCHOOL,WE ALWAYS STAYED IN THE CLASS, DURING BREAK, WE USE TO FEAST ON THE GARRI WE BROUGHT FROM HOME, ON BETTER DAYS WE USUALLY HAD SOME GROUNDNUTS TO GO WITH IT, AT A POINT MY FRIENDS USED TO CALL ME GARRI GIRL” On the contrary
CHAPTER 8:
The relief of a helper is quote taking you out of a situation. That seems hopeless, finding out of the blues you can fly when you read this chapter; you will understand what am saying.
CHAPTER 9:
Remember that popular song: “LONDON BRIDGE IS FALLING DOWN”. That feeling of being in a plane for the very first time, international flight for that matter. WHERE THE HECK HAVE YOU BEEN, THIS IS LONDON AND YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SMART. Having to learn you are in a no man’s land and you are on your own “OYO” the promises given to you by whomever, be it your relation it’s always another story when you get to the place. The playwright made that clear in her narration of Aunty Marias behavior to Ibidun after she started living with her- paradise isn’t paradise after all. The playwright brought to light the plight of living abroad without papers having to use another person’s name and lying about the passport, these are the many lies many tell to survive in a 1st world country, she brought into depth through the characters: Zainab, Ibidun, Aunty Maria.

The playwright brought to conclusion 99 days for the thief one day for the owner. if you destroy a life or traumatize a soul the person involved will have to face the music, one way or the other, The experience of trauma can be used positive or negative, abusive relationship, rape, domestic violence, sexual abuse etc.
Ariyike Akinbobola did her research well and was able to bring a 21st century novel with its modern style in a way that the message is direct and a book to keep in your closet to give to your friends, children, family members. Ariyike being a Barrister has shown another side in this narrative, descriptive REAL story. The Cost Of Our Lives is definitely a success story, in fact i will give ARIYIKE AKINBOBOLA. A 10/10. It was well documented, researched and deals with modern times situations.
