MY INTERVIEW WITH IYETUNDE MAKUN ADEYEMI OF MARYBETH BEAUTY HOUSE BY SLEEKMODUPE

Marybeth Beauty House. Started in September, 2012. It is owned by two sisters, Iyetunde Makun-Adeyemi and Olayinka Makun. We are into bridals, makeup training and sale of cosmetic products. We currently have a blog named marybethbeautyhouse.blogspot.com where I give makeup tips and reviews on makeup brands. You can also visit our Facebook page, Marybeth beauty house.

    1.              Please us tell the concept behind the birth of MARYBETH BEAUTY HOUSE?
I was a cabin crew for six years and part of the grooming standard is to wear makeup. I struggled to find what suits my face, today I will use Tara tomorrow Revlon, everyone had an opinion on which brand was much better. So I decided to attend a makeup school to help me understand better.

    1.                    Give us Details on your Educational Background and work Experience?
I studied Tourism and air transport studies and also have a Diploma in Social Media Marketing from Shaw Academy, London.

    1.                    As a Makeup Artist in Nigeria, what's your view on the progress of Makeup Business in Nigeria, its ups and downs?
The makeup business has come a long way, there is hardly any bride who doesn't require the services of a makeup artist. Also our services are on demand in film production, runway shows, magazine shoots etc. The downside to it is the pricing. I get surprised when a client calls and expect to pay N2,500 for a makeup and gele. However you cannot blame them if some other makeup artists collect such an amount. I also think it has to do with the fact that there is no strong union.

    1.

    1.                    Has it been rewarding doing Makeup business and which way can the makeup business in Nigeria be improved, you have a Blog tell us more about it?
Yes it has been very rewarding, now I know better and when you know better you do better. There is need to have a strong makeup artist union. Yes I have a blog, marybethbeautyhouse.blogspot.com. I basically talk about skincare, makeup looks and review on makeup brands. I also give tips on how to achieve that flawless look.

    1.

    1.                    Give more details on the works of Marybeth House have done and how did you start playing with the makeup brush?
After I attended a makeup school I worked for my makeup teacher for six months so that I could learn more and gather experience. I then went on to work for Memoirs of Jane (Zaron Ikeja Outlet) for three months before deciding to pursue my own.

    1.                    So what's your view on being a career business owner and merging the home front as a wife and mother?
As women we have the ability to multitask. The role of a wife, mother and business woman each has its place. We can do it all by the grace of God.

    1.                    What's your Philosophy on makeup and its creativity and your advice for upcoming Makeup Artist taking it as a career in a tight economy that we are now?
My philosophy on makeup is to create your niche, don't try to be anyone else but you. The market is big and wide enough for all of us to succeed. For upcoming artiste I will say practice, practice and more practice because practice makes perfect. Rome was not built in a day, focus on improving yourself and not on how to outshine another person. Confidence is sexy, believe in yourself, the opinion you have about yourself is more powerful than the opinion people have about you.

    1.                    Finally what should we be expecting from Marybeth Beauty House as 2016 is gradually unfolding?
We are working on becoming global. The sky is not our limit.
