One of my favourite food is (Moi-Moi or
Moyi-Moyi).This favourite delicacy of mine is one of the most traditional
snacks in Nigeria and Africa. It’s a steamed-bean pudding made from mixture of
washed and peeled and black-eyed peas, onion and fresh groundnuts and peppers
it originated from West Africa.
Of course, I learnt how to make it from
my mum which is very natural. It is a very common meal while growing up and
every average to the elite Nigerian loves to eat this delicacy. It’s been sold
on the streets and corners of Lagos and all over Nigeria, it’s cheap and
affordable.
THINGS NEEDED TO PREPARE MOI-MOI
2 cups of beans
Pepper (2 medium sizes)
Crayfish (grinded)
Onion (1 size)
Fish
Egg
Knoor (2 cubes)
Salt (little)
The Moi-Moi Leaf
Water (2 litres)
HOW TO PREPARE MOI-MOI DELICACY
- The beans have already been grinded with pepper and onions.
- Add knoor cube and stir it very well.
- After stirring it add the fish or the egg and stir it again.
- Get the Moi-Moi leaf and get a clean small cup and pour the liquid grounded Moi-Moi into every leaf and close it neatly.
- Put on your gas or cooker and get a clean pot and pour the 2 litres of water inside the pot.
- Then put the already grinded Moi-Moi in the leaf as many as been made and let them simmer for like 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes check the Moi-Moi if it has dried up and if it has, bring it out of the gas.
- Bring them out and put them in a clean bowl so it cools down.
You can either serve it with Pap also called
Akamu or Ogi. It can also be served with Garri, Rice, and fried yam. It’s very
easy to make and very affordable - very nice meal I must say
Till next time…..enjoy your Moi-Moi
