LIFE OF AN UNEMPLOYED NIGERIAN GRADUATE BY SLEEKMODUPE

Months ago the hero from Mali who rescued a 4 years old baby in Paris was so celebrated all around the world and appreciated that he was given a French Citizenship and then I later I heard, his country wants him back.

I was so puzzled as to why would they think that that young man 22 years old would go back to live where he ran away from the dangers he faced to cross over to France.

I heard he is now working with the Paris Fire Department. Kudos to the French government for appreciating humans for their efforts. Coming back to the plight of the average unemployed graduate in my home country Nigeria.

Sighs! What a tragedy it is to see talented, brilliant, articulate youth wasting away.

Since they don’t have a God father at the top, or she can’t sleep her way to the top. Then she will remain an educated pauper forever. This is a disaster.

Recently, so may arrest of yahoo guys all over the internet. I quote “am not saying yahoo yahoo is good” but lets face reality this guys are frustrated and this can lead a man or woman to do what he or she does not like?

Do you know how many unemployed graduates are on the street of Nigeria, just a few are lucky to get a well paid job.

And Nigerian parents stop making your kids feel going to the university is a guarantee they will be financially independent. Encourage them to learn skill. It empowers them and has a foundation. The main challenge is capital to start a small or big scale business.

How many banks release loans to freshly and unemployed graduates who have skills and can’t actualize it because of lack of funds.

My own design label, I had to use my personal savings to register my business with CAC and start in a small scale because I knew no bank will give me loan.

I was told by a relative the interest am to return is the issue. It takes 1-5 years for a good business to stand.

Just take a walk down the street, you will see Okada riders and Keke napep  riders, some are graduates. This principle men don’t want to be armed robbers and ritual killers, their integrity is too strong. But they are treated like trash on the streets of Nigeria because most people cannot imagine in their widest imagination they are university degree holder – very troubling.

You go to embassies – Germany, Canada, America etc, the major populations are youths between the ages of 18-45 years of age, all wanting to leave this 3^rd world country. We fear for our unborn children. Is this what they are going to meet!

I knew of a lady I meet at an audition who told me she looked for a job for 2 years and because of that she is now a mistress for a top shot and she sold her body for financial security. She had no choice, she wept has she told me. Until the top shot is tired of her she can’t leave him talk less getting married or even getting pregnant because he already had 4 kids all abroad. LOL

Then the old retired parents, siblings, relatives expecting so much from the graduate, once the need are not met what you will hear is “at you age you are still collecting money from me, see your mates driving Porche”. These greedy and money hungry parents can drive the graduate into the third mainland bridge.

Lost hopes, shattered dreams and disillusioned lives. At the end of the day most graduates relocates out of the country for a better life. I’m not here to point finger at any party, I’m here to say the situation is very worrisome and things cannot continue this way. The future generation of this country is sleeping away, and if it does, then what’s left!.
